Fleet CV: Saul Jeavons, director, The Transafe Network

Describe your role.

I am responsible for fleet risk reviews, ongoing consultancy, training and I also look after the UK end of the Transafe Network.

What is your career background?

My last role was head of investigations and risk management at the Transport Research Laboratory.

I have previously worked on road safety education, training and publicity for local authorities, and been a road safety manager of a consultancy. Originally I was in theatre lighting in the West End.

What are you working on at the moment?

A training course and preparing for a return trip to Oman for an oil industry client to assess progress.

What has been your greatest career success?

Encouraging a reluctant client to enter for a Prince Michael Road Safety Award which it won. Also leading the project team which developed a 10-year road safety strategy for a global company.

What do you enjoy about your job?

Work in the oil and gas industry involves travelling to places you otherwise wouldn’t get to go to, like Iran which is beautiful. It’s the variety that I most enjoy.
