The Conservative Party has published its policy green paper on how it will manage down carbon emissions from vehicles.

The solution depends on the rapid uptake of electric and electric-hybrid vehicles, as well as the roll out of a high-speed rail network.

“We have a vision of a different Britain,” said party leader, David Cameron.

“It is a vision of a Britain in which our cars run on electricity high-speed trains whisk us from north to south in less time than it takes to get across greater London.”

Mr Cameron said most of the country’s machinery, trains and cars can be powered by low-carbon electricity provided through a new “electricity internet using abundant low-carbon energy sources like tidal power and biogas”.
