Geoffrey Bray, chairman of fleet management company Fleet Support Group, has turned the clock back more than 40 years and returned to the recording studio to make a charity CD.

He was lead singer and guitarist with 1960s band The Gonks, which rubbed shoulders with the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Tom Jones.

Now, The Gonks have reformed and released a CD of 10 covers versions of hits released by the likes of Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and The Hollies.

Called ‘4 Old Blokes and a Saturday in June’, the CD is raising funds for Hope for Tomorrow, a West Country-based cancer charity, which raises money to fund mobile chemotherapy units to bring treatment closer to patients’ homes.

Having rekindled the recording bug when reforming to make their charity CD, The Gonks - Bray, Mike Price and Brian Streicher, along with Cliff Hall, who is best known for playing keyboards with the Shadows - are now looking forward to making a second CD later this year.

“Hope for Tomorrow is a tremendous cause and every penny from the sale of the CD goes directly towards their mobile chemotherapy unit project,” said Bray.

The CD is available for a minimum donation of £6, which includes postage and packing, from www.hopefortomorrow.org.uk/charity/buy_products.
