With increasing competition for the buyer’s attention, BCA is reminding sellers that trade name deletion (TND) has a significant effect on desirability at remarketing time.

BCA’s Duncan Ward commented: “The days where a sign-written van could be entered for sale with a dash of paint over the original company name are long gone – and rightly so.

“Fewer vans are presented nowadays in their original livery since the rise of the wraparound vinyl graphics, but the TND still has to be carried out to a good standard.”

He added: “There’s little point in removing vinyl lettering to reveal virgin paintwork which then stands put like a sore thumb.

"Bodywork should be machine polished back to a consistent finish – remember that the next user will want to rebrand the van to their own company name and will want to do so over a clean body panel.

“Similarly, if vehicles have been fully wrapped, then the vinyl should be removed properly and any residue dealt with.

“Buyers are likely to be increasingly selective over the coming months, so make it as easy as possible for them to choose your vans by preparing and presenting them well.”
