Volkswagen will launch a low emission BlueMotion version of its Caddy van in the next couple of months. It will be the first Volkswagen LCV to wear the BlueMotion badge, following on from Ford’s introduction of Econetic versions of the Fiesta Van and Transit.

The Caddy will use some of the suite of technologies offered in Volkswagen BlueMotion cars. These include higher gear ratios for lower rpm at cruising speed, aerodynamic tweaks, lower ride height and low rolling resistance tyres. Power will come from a 104bhp 1.9-litre TDI engine.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles spokesman John Rawlings said: “The launch of the Caddy BlueMotion has been driven by customer demand. In the majority of cases, our fleet sales team are asked about Volkswagen’s green credentials as part of the tender process, especially among local authorities.”

The BlueMotion model will be joined in November by the Caddy EcoFuel – powered by either compressed natural gas (CNG) or bio-methane sourced from landfill waste.
Volkswagen has recently launched Euro V-compliant Crafter vans and these will be joined in January by new Euro V Transporter variants.
