Practical tools are a key component of the new Fleet News website, which has undergone the biggest transformation in its 15-year history. Try out the newest tools to help you run a more effective and efficient fleet.

Car tax calculator – work out costs for driver and company

The Car Tax Calculator, sponsored by Toyota and Lexus Fleet Services, can be found under the costs section of the website. Input vehicle, model, derivative and replacement cycle to find out how much it will cost your employee to run the car (20% and 40% taxpayers) and how much it will cost your company in Class 1A National Insurance Contributions, VED and running costs – service, maintenance and repair, depreciation and fuel cost. The Car Tax Calculator enables fleet decision-makers to advise their company drivers about the best-value cars to choose.

Fuel cost calculator – your key for efficiency

Available for use in ‘quick’ form or ‘detailed’ form. The quick option allows you to input mpg, annual mileage and fuel price and shows the cost for the year, including the impact of a 1p-per-litre fuel price increase or an improvement in mpg. The detail option enables you to build up your entire fleet of company vehicles by model/derivative, fuel type and number, add in a national average fuel rate or a rate that is specific to a region of the country, and work out the total annual fuel bill for your fleet. It will also inform you about the impact to your costs of a 1p-per-litre increase in fuel price and the savings that would be achieved by an average 1mpg improvement in fuel efficiency.

Running costs – cars and vans in detail

Running costs are available for both cars and vans. Fleets can assess how much any vehicle will cost to run over the lifecycle, allowing comparisons from three years/30,000 miles to four years and 120,000 miles. Input operating cycle, make and model to reveal the costs or search for models that meet your fleet needs by setting the range or threshold for CO2 emissions, VED, fuel costs, benefit-in-kind or insurance. The running costs results are broken down into VED, SMR, depreciation and fuel to give a pence-per-mile cost. The table also shows CO2 emissions, mpg, P11D price, residual value price and benefit-in-kind percentage.
