BMW Group has launched a global recall of more than 1.5 million cars due to a fault with their braking system.

The issue affects a number of current model lines sold since 2022.

Deliveries of affected models have been put on hold until the recall work has been carried out.

BMW Group issued a recall for a small volume of models, in February, for the same issue. This has now been expanded to include a wider range of BMW, Mini and Rolls Royce vehicles.

Among the affected cars are the BMW X1, X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7 SUVs, the 5 and 7 Series saloons, and the electric iX1, i5 and i7. New Mini Cooper and Countryman models are also included.

As a result of the recall, BMW Group has revised its delivery forecast and profit expectations for 2024.

The fault is caused by the Integrated Braking System (IBS), which is used to control brake pressure, and can result in the need for increased pedal force while braking.

The affected component is produced by Continental. BMW is replacing the IBS in all affected vehicles.
