Epyx comment

New vehicle registrations in November on 1link Service Network show the continued fleet move towards electric vehicles (EVs) with the 38.69% recorded being our highest ever figure by more than 3.40 percentage points and a massive rise over the 22.42% seen a year ago.

As would be expected, there was a corresponding fall for petrol at just 22.37% of registrations this month against 37.08% for the same time in 2023, a drop which underlines the speed and extent to which company car drivers are swapping petrol for electric power.

The trend line for diesel and hybrids is more level. Diesel is now at 18.73% compared to 19.59% over a year ago. Generally, for most of the last 12 months, diesel has hovered just below 20.00%. There was a fall to 13.58% in July but this appears to be an outlier.

For November, hybrid registrations were 20.21%. Similarly to diesel, hybrids have been commanding a market share of around 20% in recent months, although there was an all-time high of 24.00% in October. It is unclear whether this is yet part of an upward trend.

Taken as a whole, these figures show the growing fleet commitment to EVs. While there may be regular stories appearing in mainstream media indicating antipathy towards electrification, and retail demand is growing relatively slowly, almost 60% of new fleet vehicles we see being added to the platform now use some form of electric motive power.

It’s worth noting that in January 2020, EVs represented just 2.09% of registrations with hybrids at 1.35%.
