JD Power Results
An alternative guide is operated by JD Power. Its annual survey of UK cars is based on the responses of owners of two- to three-year-old cars who read What Car?, and includes various parameters of which reliability is just one.
Although it includes more model lines than the FN50 survey, it is not such a large sample, and while there is useful additional information other than just reliability – performance of the car and dealer – it is subjective with no underlying benchmark for service and performance levels, relating only to customer expectations and experiences.
It is split by sector, so it’s easy to benchmark cars against another. Here we’ve pulled out the top three cars in each sector with their percentage ratings from the 2009 JD Power survey:
