GUARDIAN Insurance is to handle accident management on behalf of BT in a deal involving some £75 million worth of motor insurance over three years. Guardian clinched the contract, which covers a fleet of some 60,000 cars and commercial vehicles, in a competitive tender involving several leading insurance and fleet management companies.

BT previously handled all its accident claims in-house and under the new contract, Guardian will provide a helpline for roadside assistance, vehicle inspection and repair, claims handling and managing fleet risk information and statistics.

The deal also has a partnership aspect in that BT will provide the latest combination of telecommunications and video technology to deliver a remote vehicle inspection service with live pictures transmitted direct to Guardian to save time and money for both insurer and client.
