THE RAC is test marketing a 'non use discount' scheme for members which is likely to be launched to its entire membership later this year - but fleets are set to be excluded.

The RAC started the trial late last year and this week it was attacked by rival motor organisation Green Flag, which claimed it could result in many RAC members putting themselves and their vehicles at risk by deciding not to use a service they have paid for to protect their discount.

Green Flag said it had considered a no claims discount for a number of years but had rejected it in favour of a competitive pricing policy. The RAC is marketing the scheme with about 18,000 private members and says if trials prove successful it will launch the scheme in the second half of this year.
