SUMMIT at Lloyd's is the first insurance company to shrink its insurance certificates down to convenient credit card size for fleet clients. The new laminated mini-certificates contain all the information required by law not only in England, but also on the continent and will be issued to all company car drivers insured by Summit from January.

The card has evidence of insurance cover printed in German, French and Spanish and also includes a single 24-hour helpline number accessible from anywhere in the world without worrying about dialling codes. Part of the group of Lloyd's motor syndicates, Summit specialises in the fleet market and insures about 100,000 fleet, daily rental and contract hire cars and vans.

The new insurance card could also have further applications in future if tentative proposals to clamp down on uninsured motorists receive the force of legislation. A number of organisations have suggested a form of insurance 'tax disc' - mounted on a vehicle's windscreen - to demonstrate the vehicle has a valid insurance policy in force. The compact and durable Summit card could easily be used for such a purpose.
