VAUXHALL is to install Trafficmaster as standard on all Vectra models from 1998 model year cars, which will start appearing in showrooms next month. The Trafficmaster traffic information system, currently fitted as standard on GLS models and above, and LS models ordered by fleets, will become standard on all LS and entry-level Envoy models. The system is likely to become a standard feature on Omega models, too.

Vauxhall is contracted to take up to 300,000 Trafficmaster units in the next two years and is extending availability as a result of driver demand for the device which gives motorists advanced warning of traffic jams. Trafficmaster airtime is free for the first year and thereafter Vauxhall has negotiated a special fleet discount of £18 per vehicle for the second year or £32 for years two and three.

Trafficmaster's screen information system is in use with BMW, and the Milton Keynes-based company has letters of intent from three other manufacturers to use the system. It is expected that a series of announcements will be made at the London Motor Show in October.
