COMPANY car drivers must be vigilant at all times about the security of their cars, with 35% of car crime occurring outside a driver's house or in an adjacent street. VELO has called on fleet managers to encourage their drivers to park in a locked garage wherever possible, or at least to vary their parking space.
Multi-storey car parks prove a relatively safe place to park a car, acting as location for fewer than 1% of car crime incidents suffered by VELO's fleet.
Once on the move, company car drivers are least at risk on motorways, where only 10% of accidents take place, although these tend to cost significantly more to repair. A, B and unclassified roads accounted for almost 70% of accidents, a powerful argument against the introduction of motorway tolls which would force more vehicles off the motorway and on to roads less able to cope.
