VAUXHALL is set to become the first manufacturer in the UK to launch a complete range of liquefied petroleum gas-powered vehicles aimed at the fleet market. Using technology first seen in the established Dualfuel Combo van, the new LPG cars due to make their debut at the Fleet Motor Show are 2.0-litre 16-valve versions of the Vectra hatchback and the Omega. They will be followed later this year by Corsa and Astra versions.

Vauxhall's move highlights the importance of gas powered vehicles in the fleet arena and signals the high profile alternative fuels will have at the show with a string of other manufacturers, fuel providers and vehicle converters all on hand to hold discussions with fleet managers and fleet decision makers. There is virtually no loss of performance over the equivalent petrol cars.

Keith Michaels, Vauxhall fleet's programmes and marketing manager, said: 'This is a very exciting development which clearly shows our commitment to helping fleets limit the environmental impact of their activities. Each of the three vehicles in our LPG range is backed by a full warranty and extensive dealer support. Corsa and Astra LPG models will also become available later this year.'

The LPG refuelling network across the UK currently runs to 100 stations and is rapidly expanding thanks to the commitment of Calor Gas, Jet and Shell to further increase the fuel's availability on petrol station forecourts.
