GROWING interest in bi-fuel cars from customers of Lex Vehicle Leasing has led it to take on five liquefied petroleum gas Mondeos as demonstrators. The R-reg petrol models were converted to run on LPG by Tickford Engineering, in Milton Keynes.

The green fleet consists of three 2.0 LXs, one 1.8 GLX and a 2.0 Ghia. The UK's largest leasing firm chose the higher specification models to help educate senior managers and directors about the driveability of LPG cars. It decided to introduce the cars because of the number of customers who asked about testing one. Each vehicle will be available for one/two-week trials, although the Lex is not yet saying what plans it has for a 'green' hire fleet.
