VOLKSWAGEN has taken the wraps off its new saloon, the Bora, which will fit in its range between the Golf and Passat. The car has the same platform as the Golf, but bears far more physical resemblance to the Passat, and is being positioned by Volkswagen as more than just a Vento replacement.
The manufacturer believes the Bora will give it an upper medium car for less than £15,000 - Passat prices have crept up to the point where only the 1.6 S beats the £15,000 barrier, and the heart of the range is now much closer to £17,000 - to compete with the bread and butter company cars from the major fleet manufacturers.
The Bora will feature engines from Volkswagen's 90bhp TDi to a 150bhp 2.3-litre V5, and standard equipment will include twin front and side airbags and ABS. The car goes on sale in Germany in the autumn, and is expected to reach UK shores early next year.
