MANCHESTER-based Independent Insurance has adopted a personal contract motoring plan for its 1,200 employees. The insurer has nominated contract hire specialist Evans Halshaw Fleetcare as its preferred supplier of the scheme which is part of a programme to increase employees' choice of benefits.

Independent Insurance expects the PCP to appeal particularly to its perk company car drivers who account for around one-fifth of its 330 strong fleet. Andrew Hinett, Independent's facilities controller said: 'A crucial part of our wider strategy of making our employee benefits more flexible obviously involved looking closely at fleet usage. A non-compulsory PCP scheme seemed like a good solution for a number of our drivers and other employees.'

The company implemented a cash option two years ago, but has had a low take-up, with staff preferring to stay with a relatively generous user-chooser company car scheme.
