MITSUBISHI is making a proud boast of its fleet reliability after two taxis topped 300,000 miles each on their original engines. Taxi operators Margaret and Ray McLeod contacted Mitsubishi to tell them of their trusty 1990 Space Wagons which are operated on the Isle of Skye. One has notched up 363,000 miles and the other 316,000.

Both vehicles are on their original engines and it took 210,000 miles before a new clutch and rear brake drums were needed for one taxi. Both still have their original shock absorbers and engine mounts. A drive-shaft on the driver's side has needed changing occasionally.

As well as the trips around the island the cars are often called to go further afield - one passenger went as far as Tunbridge Wells in Kent, a round trip of more than 1,000 miles.
