PEUGEOT'S Ryton plant has set an all-time weekly production record building 2,965 206 hatchbacks - the highest weekly production total since 1973.

The record was smashed as factory workers began overtime working to cope with demand for the car ahead of an extra shift and 950 new staff being recruited to cope with orders.
