HONEYWELL Control Systems has outsourced its accident management to new firm Russell Vehicle Management, created by Paul Rose, former chief executive of the Fleet Management Group and managing director of the Accident Management Company. Russell Vehicle Management has won the accident management contract for Honeywell's 1,500 sale and leaseback vehicles from VELO.

Honeywell Control Systems accounting services manager Eddie West said of the new contracts: 'Our whole philosophy now is to cherry-pick the best services because you don't get service from putting all aspects of fleet management under one roof. Gone are the days when we had enough in-house knowledge, manpower and investment to handle the whole business ourselves. And by giving sectors of the business to individual companies we retain the hunger and focus to achieve the best.'

West said he was impressed by Russell Vehicle Management's 'integrity and experience'. Rose established his firm because of concern about the increasing number of companies claiming to offer a 'one-stop-shop' solution to fleet management. He said: 'I'm a strong believer that big is not beautiful because the bigger a company gets the less it can tailor its services to individual needs,' he said. 'In other words we are seeing companies having a go at accident management, but they don't know what they're talking about when it comes to insurance.'
