FLEETS are being sounded out by PHH Fleet Management on whether they would use a new fuel card which would help to offset carbon dioxide emissions of their vehicles. Several are said to be interested but PHH has not yet revealed who is involved in current talks.

The card would offer the same t facilities as a normal fuel card but with an added environmental benefit. Using data about fuel consumption from the card, a set payment would be made to the Carbon Storage Trust, which in turn would invest in projects to offset the CO2 emitted.

The trust is a commercial organisation trading in and marketing CO2 offsets. It has three main parts - a not-for-profit trust, an environmental steering committee of experts to guide anti-CO2 initiatives, and a management company which provides capital and management for the trust in return for a royalty on sales.
