MEYER International, parent company of national builder's merchants Jewson, has signed with ABS for the repair of its 1,490-strong car and van fleet. The fleet is managed by an in-house team of 21 from Jewson Transport Centre in Winchester - where all the accident management functions are administered - and, while ABS will handle repairs for the 1,240 company cars and 250 vans, the centre will continue to look after its 1,000 trucks.

Ian Berrill, Meyer's group motor insurance manager, said: 'As a self-insured fleet, we are very keen to keep on top of all the different costs resulting from the accident process. This means that, while all parts of the accident management process are looked after in-house, we need a suitable repair partner. We were very impressed by the professionalism of the ABS operation and its progressive attitude.'

Meanwhile, Jewson reports that it has cut its fuel bill by more than £20,000 this year following a switch to the BP Plus fuel card. The company runs a fleet of almost 2,500 vehicles and financial controller Jo Wareham said: 'The combination of fuel card and fleet management software which BP has supplied us has saved us more than £20,000 over the past five months. BP Plus Control has substantially cut the time spent ordering fuel and administering our fleet through on-line fuel purchasing information in conjunction with full fleet and vehicle details.'
