THE Competition Commission report has cast doubt on the future viability of Europe's biggest single fleet, Motability Finance. MFL runs more than 360,000 vehicles on behalf of disabled charity Motability and benefits from major discounts to make the cars affordable to people in receipt of the higher rate of the mobility allowance.

But the New Cars Inquiry report wants to level the playing field between dealers and fleets and give them equal levels of discount, raising the possibility that manufacturers will have less money to put towards MFL discounts or that they will have to cut discounts to equal levels with bulk buying dealerships.

Noel Muddiman, Motability director, said: 'We are looking into the potential effects of the report at the moment and preparing a reply, but there is a possibility it could affect discounts and the prices we pay.'
