A compact MPV based on the A-class will be shown by Mercedes-Benz at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September. The Vaneo will compete in a growing European market sector which is expected to increase by 46% between 1999 and 2004 - from 486,000 to 710,000 units.

About 80,000 compact MPVs were sold in the UK in 2000. Mercedes sees an opportunity for growth as well as conquest sales.
