JAGUAR has revealed the first pictures of its new X-type estate.

Estates currently account for more than a quarter of sales in the premium upper-medium segment across Europe, and the range will mirror that of the saloon, with front-wheel drive 2.0-litre diesel and 2.1-litre V6 petrol derivatives and four-wheel drive 2.5 and 3.0-litre V6 petrol models.

The estate could help reduce the age profile of Jaguar drivers, as the company's market research has shown that compared to saloon cars, owners of estate cars are more likely to participate in sports such as skiing, cycling and windsurfing rather than spectate.

The X-type estate features integrated roof rails and a rear window that opens independently of the tailgate. It will make its debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
