VAUXHALL'S revised Corsa will be fitted with a record-breaking new common rail diesel engine when it arrives at showrooms in September.

The new Corsa 1.3 CDTi shares the same engine as the Opel ECO-Speedster concept car which has just set 17 new economy and speed world records.

The 70bhp Corsa 1.3 CDTi produces 125lb-ft of torque and offers combined fuel consumption of 62.7mpg with carbon dioxide emissions of 122g/km, while the ECO-Speedster was tuned to 112bhp and set its records in a special class for turbodiesel cars.

In separate exercises the ECO-Speedster recorded 111.2mpg as part of an economy run on public roads, averaged 140.7mpg over 24 hours in a track test and achieved a maximum speed of 160.2mph. During the high-speed run the ECO-Speedster also achieved 31.4mpg.
