AN outdoor advertising specialist is using motorcycles in a bid to beat inner city congestion and claims the move has already improved the productivity of its poster pasting and repair staff.

JC Decaux, which ran three motorcycles, has leased a further two to combat the problem at its Manchester and London sites.

Fleet manager Gerald Hares said keeping up with maintenance and urgent repair work is vital, as clients' reputations can be compromised if advertising hoardings are not kept in immaculate condition.

Hares calculates his motorcycling technicians are now able to visit on average 20 more sites every day as a result of using motorcycles. All the necessary equipment, such as graphics and light poles, are transported on the liveried bikes, which have been leased from specialist company Motorcycle Management.

The bikes even carry collapsible six-foot ladders.

Hares said: 'Motorcycles are practical, easy, economical and fast. They're certainly helping us to achieve a more productive use of our time.'
