MONDEO Man is making way for the Tigra Temp as fleets develop to reflect the rapid rise of temporary contract workers, new figures show.

The UK employment market has moved away from the ‘jobs for life’ mentality in many firms with a recorded 34% increase in the number of temporary and fixed term workers over the past decade.

As a result, businesses need to modernise their thinking when it comes to medium term car provision, according to funding and fleet management company Interleasing, which is launching its new Minilease service to reflect the change.

It is calling on businesses to update their company car provision to reflect the demise of the pool car and the rise of the more flexible short-term lease vehicle. Clive Forsythe, sales and marketing director at Interleasing, said: ‘So far many companies have addressed the issue of the changing workforce by using pool cars to meet transport demands.

‘However this is neither cost effective or attractive to new employees. Pool cars would have to be in use for 72% of the time just to break even and they tend to have a negative impression with employees. Another option has been to let people use their own cars for business use but this can lead to duty of care concerns.’

The firm’s Minilease service is available for periods of between one month and one year, offering the benefits of full-term contract hire but with additional flexibility and without any early termination penalties. It also includes free delivery and collection, UK breakdown and recovery service, vehicle maintenance, P11D and Motor Insurance Database reporting, the option of full management information and an all-inclusive pricing policy. Vehicles can be ordered at just 48 hours notice, the firm says.
