BRIAN Middleton, fleet manager Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue.

How many vehicles are you responsible for and how long have you been in the fleet industry?

I am in charge of a 180-strong fleet and I have been in the industry for the past 30 years.

What’s the most interesting vehicle on the fleet?

We have a Scania Bronto, which is a 32-metre aerial ladder platform.

What is the best part of your job?

My role is extremely varied but the best part is that no two days are ever the same.

What is the worst thing a driver has done?

One of our drivers misfuelled a fire appliance, which rates as one of the worst.

If you were transport minister what policy would you introduce?

The first policy I would introduce is five-yearly driving refreshers for all licence holders, not just those driving LGV vehicles.

What is your favourite book?

Harry Potter has reawakened my reading pleasure and provided material other than work-shop manuals, Fleet News and Commercial Motor.
