A BATTERY-powered van that promises to compete with diesel equivalents was unveiled at the CV Show in Birmingham this week.

The Modec van is a zero-emission vehicle that the makers said is comparable in economy and performance to a diesel vehicle. It is powered by a battery and produces no carbon dioxide or other pollutants and has a 120-mile range on a single charge.

Reaching a top speed of 50mpg, the Modec carries a load of up to two tonnes. Production will start in the autumn.
