Mercedes-Benz is refining its next-generation E-Class range, which make its debut in 2009.

The new model, likely to arrive in the UK in 2010, will have more interior space, with chunkier looks than the current version and S-Class styling inside.

Under the bonnet will be a host of CGI direct-injection petrol engines ranging from a 2.5-litre V6 to the 6.2-litre V8 in the C63 AMG.

CDI models will adopt Bluetec technology to cut NOx levels, although CO2 emissions will rise slightly.

Of most interest will be the E300 CDI Hybrid – a 2.2-litre diesel/electric model with CO2 emissions of 134g/km.
