The move towards getting more workers to work from home seems to have stalled, after the latest figures show there has been no increase in home-working since 2002.

Just 3% of workers now always work from home, although 7% do so at least once a week, according to the 2008 National Centre for Social Research Omnibus Survey and the National Travel Survey.

The figures have remained almost unchanged for the past six years, despite government initiatives to reduce commuting-related congestion and emissions by encouraging initiatives including home-working.

Almost 80% of workers said that they were not able to work from home for various reasons including the need to be at the office.

Almost two-thirds of occasional home workers said that they could do all or more of their work from home, while 13% of those who had not worked from home at all said they could do at least some of their work at home.
