BT is re-launching its ‘friends and family safe driving programme’ to coincide with European Safety Week, which takes place from October 19-25, 2009.

Employees are encouraged to take the road safety message home with them and to talk to friends and family about driving safely at all times.

It originally launched its online driver training module ‘One More Second’ for family members and friends, as well as employees, for Road Safety Week in 2006.

To date, more than 4,000 people have visited the website, but BT is urging more people to take part in the training, which is free of charge.

“During the last seven years we have assessed and developed the driving behaviours of over 65,000 of our own people and seen significant improvements in our road safety performance and a reduction in associated costs,” explained BT's group safety advisor Dave Wallington.

“We feel that the on-going development of our family and friends initiative is a natural extension of this program and an opportunity for them to participate in a scheme which is already helping keep BT employees safe at work.”
