Fleets worried about what impact the strikes by Royal Mail will have on their vehicle registration and tax processes have been issued with advice from DVLA.

In a statement issued to ACFO, fleets have been advised that the DVLA is working to “minimise disruption to our customers” as a result of the postal strikes that may escalate to a national strike.

“The impact of any action will clearly depend on when it takes place and on how long it lasts,” said the DVLA.

With Royal Mail industrial action currently scheduled to take place on 22 and 23 October, the following arrangements will be in place.

Fleets are on the electronic fleet scheme will receive tax discs from a secure courier company.

The courier company is not part of Royal Mail and delivery will not be affected by any industrial action.

Discs for November should have already been received.

V11 reminders are delivered by Royal Mail.

Reminders for November have already been sent and there are currently no plans to allow customers to collect V11s from DVLA in Swansea.

This option will be reviewed if further industrial action is announced.

Current Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) refund rules will not change during the industrial action.

Refunds will still be calculated from the date the application is made.

There are already processes in place allowing time for an event such as a disposal notification to be received after the refund application.

“It is recognised that industrial action nearer the end of the month will potentially have more impact,” said the DVLA.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and further guidance will be issued if necessary.”
