Light vans

An increasing number of trade buyers are bidding for the best light vans on offer, but fewer are showing interest in older stock.

There is still an uncomfortable volume of high-mileage, scruffy vans and, although this number is currently manageable, the best bids would not have met some vendors’ inflated aspirations.

With volumes dipping just below the present level of demand, the majority of smaller vans have enjoyed price stability.

Good-looking models with low, warranted miles perform well with any extras/options ensuring there will be a healthy return.

Over-supply of particular models, as was recently seen for Ford’s Fiestavan and Peugeot’s 206, sets the alarm bells ringing. Late-plated Vauxhall Corsavan and Renault Clio appeal to both trade and retail buyers.

Panel vans

The medium-weight van sector continues to enjoy a high level of customer interest.

Currently, Volkswagen’s Transporter is leading the pack with Renault Trafic making good headway.

All Transporter T5 models are in demand with no apparent tail-off for older examples. If clean, T4s and early-year T5s attract plenty of interest and achieve Guide Trade prices.

The nicest, late-year, higher-horsepower types are the biggest headturners, regularly achieving Top Guide.

Mercedes-Benz Vitos also perform strongly, with higher-powered models leading the way.

The shortage of attractive medium-sized panel vans is further illustrated by Toyota’s HiAce, where there never seems to be enough to satisfy demand.
