Hitachi CapitalService company award winners:

Van fleet management initiative:
BT Fleet

The judges found that BT Fleet lives and breathes vans right to its core. Its customer programmes are centred on cost reduction, compliance and maximising vehicle availability. A worthy winner.

Van fleet service company: Arval

The breadth and depth of our winner’s service was backed by a range of initiatives that won the judges’ praise. They said: “Arval’s capped price diesel is a tremendous initiative which is very van focused. Its management reporting really allows a fleet to interrogate its fuel usage and performance.

“Arval is coming back to the forefront after a few years of being a bit faded, which is great news for fleets.”

Van service and repair company: BT Fleet

The judges summed it up by saying: “A comprehensive service for van fleets that shows real understanding of their needs. BT Fleet is a forward-thinking company that is seeking to provide a continuously-improving service for its customers.”

Van remarketing initiative: Trade Vans Direct from Northgate

The judges were looking for a new initiative designed for the changing needs of the van market. Our winner has recognised the difficult business climate and responded with an innovative service providing low-cost vans to small and medium-sized businesses.

The judges said: “Trade Vans Direct recognises the difficult business circumstances in which many companies currently operate.

“The innovative service targets small to medium-sized businesses which need a reliable used van that is well maintained and reliable. It is an innovative recession-busting service that will help small businesses throughout the country.”

Van leasing initiative: Hitachi Capital

The winner impressed the judges with its efforts to reduce fleets costs. Its programme has generated combined savings of £1.1 million alone for just two customers.

The judges said: “We were particularly impressed with their efforts to reduce costs, which are especially important in the current climate.
“The figures speak for themselves in terms of the monetary savings of the SAVE programme – it’s a convincing argument.”

Van equipment initiative: Chambers Vehicle Conversions

Our winner is a small family-run business which has been trading for just four years. But its innovation in creating a low-weight messing van persuaded the judges the firm was already an award-winning provider.
They commented: “Chambers identified a problem and came out with a perfect solution which provides significant financial savings. Utilisation is crucial for van fleets so this is a valuable product for operators.”

Van fleet safety: Robert Bosch

The winning company is no stranger to picking up awards, which is just recognition for its innovative efforts which save lives every day on the road.
This time the award relates to the pioneering development of ESP which has been adapted to the van market so it can respond to different load patterns.
The judges said: “Bosch is rarely recognised for the huge contribution it has made to saving lives on the road.

“It has pioneered safety braking systems and ESP and while we will never know how many lives they have saved, you can be sure that it is significant.
“It’s an engineering solution to a safety issue and the real beauty is you don’t even have to know how to use it – it just works.”

Technology initiative: Trafficmaster (Highly commended – Trimble MRM).

This was a very closely-fought category but our winner triumphed again for the second year running by adding new features to an already award-winning proposition.

The judges were particularly impressed with the submission from Trafficmaster, which included testimonmials from satisfied customers and proof of the savings made by using a Trafficmaster system to control a van fleet.
