The Volkswagen Scirocco will come with an efficient new entry-level engine from the New Year.

The two-door compact coupé will come with the 1.4-litre TSI 122PS engine, with prices starting at £18,860 on the road.

The engine develops 147lbs ft of torque channelled via a six-speed manual gearbox to the front wheels.

On the combined cycle the car travels 44.1mpg and emits 146g/km of CO2, making it the cleanest petrol model in the range.

Standard equipment including a six-CD autochanger with iPod preparation, rain and dusk sensors, a multifunction computer, air conditioning and 17-inch ‘Donington' alloy wheels as well as ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags.

Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) is also available on this model as a £765 option.
