Fleets could cut emissions and fuel consumption by up to 15% by opting for a new range of Fiat cars equipped with eco-technology.

The manufacturer claims the savings can be brought about by choosing models equipped with eco:Drive.

The system downloads information about the way a vehicle is being driven, including speed, gear changes, acceleration and deceleration, to a data stick plugged into a USB port inside the vehicle.

Drivers then transfer this data to a computer via a free tool which can be downloaded from Fiat’s website which enables them to see how their driving style is affecting performance and emissions.

As well as this, a series of tutorials is available which advises on techniques drivers can adopt to reduce fuel consumption, and sets targets for improvements over a set period.

Drivers are then graded so they can chart their progress.

Adam Pumfrey, Fiat UK’s fleet and remarketing director, said: “Drivers can see exactly how much fuel they are using and what emissions and being generated by their driving style. Then they can receive advice on how to reach targets for improvement.”

Mr Pumfrey added: “In the fleet market, individual drivers making small savings can have a positive effect in reducing a fleet’s overall carbon footprint and generate significant cost savings across the business.”

Eco:Drive is currently available on the Grande Punto, 500 and Bravo models.
