Fleet CV: Judy Ward, Client relationship director, Paragon

Describe your role

Everything client-related, from working closely with manufacturers’ fleet and used car managers to managing all customer communication.

I also manage a team of contract managers and have a business development role, tendering and converting new opportunities.

What is your background?

Before I took this role at Paragon, I worked in a marketing and communications position for RS Components, a large industrial components supplier, so I understand the value of high service levels.

What skills are needed for your position?

Good communication is vitally important. My role also requires the ability to view things strategically and continually challenge what we do and how we do it.

Have you had any specific training?

The vast majority of my training has been on the job – there is nothing like learning from experience.

I also have the benefit of being part of a very experienced team which has been round the block a few times.

How do you juggle customer requirements?

We take a central position and make sure we understand manufacturers’ and rental customers’ differing operating models.

We then create strategy for captive fleet management, de-
fleeting and remarketing that meets the needs and reduces potential for conflict.

What would be your dream job?

I’d love to be a wine buyer for Waitrose, visiting vineyards that produce sauvignon blanc.
