Electric vehicle manufacturer Aixam Mega has introduced a new, two-seat electric vehicle aimed at local authority and large business fleets.

The Mega e-City Pro is a pared-down version of the Mega e-City, and is priced at £10,131 plus VAT.

It can be registered as a commercial vehicle so businesses can reclaim VAT.

It also qualifies for 100% first year capital allowance.

Running costs are around 2-3p per mile, including re-charging and maintenance.

It has a range of up to 40 miles and a top speed of 40mph.

There is no rapid charge option so it needs up to eight hours plugged into a standard single phase system.

“With pressure mounting on public sector bodies and large businesses to cut their carbon emissions, now is a good time to introduce a small all-electric vehicle designed specifically for the needs of businesses,” said Lawrence Holland, general manager of Aixam Mega.

A company spokesman said the new vehicle should be available on lease deals, although no contracts are yet in place.
