The most common collisions for fleets remain those suffered through slow speed manoeuvres or while their vehicles are parked, according to Interactive Driving Systems.

Although the cost of these individual incidents are relatively low, the overall cost to individual organisations because of the high volume of such incidents adds up to millions of pounds in direct repair costs, as well as a wide range of hidden costs such as vehicle down-time and reduced resale values.

Interactive Driving Systems has therefore reviewed best practice research on safe parking and has developed tips for drivers to avoid any incidents.

They include: having an eye examination every two years, as an increase in slow speed manoeuvring incidents is often a sign of deteriorating vision; and checking your mirrors every time you get in your vehicle.
