Recession-hit fleets are being offered a new deal from Lombard which promises an alternative to the long-term commitment of leasing contracts and the expense of daily rental.

Lombard Vehicle Management Flexi-Rental costs 25% less than typical daily rental charges and is 5% more than typical contract hire rentals. Vehicles can be returned without penalty subject to a minimum rental of 84 days.

Lombard’s Flexi-Rental is the latest in a run of flexible rental products to be launched by leasing companies.

Stuart Houlston, Lombard managing director, said: “A flexible rental solution will suit more businesses at the current time than ever before.

“We are introducing it at a time not only when budgets are under extreme pressure from the economic downturn, but when the industry is also digesting the implementation of major changes to capital allowances.

“Flexi-Rental means businesses can take the time to develop their long-term fleet strategies and evaluate market conditions when the outlook is more predictable.”

British Gas selects Lombard for massive deal

British Gas VanLombard has won the contract to provide long-time customer British Gas, with 2,000 replacement vans.

Although Lombard has been a supplier to British Gas for more than five years, the company won a tender against five other leasing providers.

The fleet of Volkswagen Caddy vans, for use mainly by central heating engineers, will be delivered from April, signwritten and fitted out.

Colin Marriott, British Gas general manager – fleet, said: “Lombard’s consultative approach, account team quality, competitive funding and specialist resources gave it the edge.”
