Towing comes under the spotlight

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is aiming to clear up the muddy water that surrounds the laws of towing for commercial vehicles with an instructional two-disc DVD.

Towing Trailers with Vans and Light Goods Vehicles aims to give van and truck drivers and their managers essential guidance to keep them safe and on the right side of the law when towing.

It can be used to train drivers in the often complex safety aspects of selecting, coupling and driving vehicle combinations, as well as driving techniques, speed limits and reversing.

A second DVD contains managers’ notes and test papers covering driver licensing, operator licensing and drivers’ hours.
The DVD is the third in a series for vans and light goods vehicles, following on from Routine checks for vans and light goods vehicles and Safe loading of vans and light goods vehicles.
