Fleet drivers have been told to gather as much information at the scene of an accident as they can both to speed up the claims process and to help insurers spot fraud.

It is a legal requirement to exchange names and addresses and insurers are reminding drivers to make a record of the contact details of all people involved in or who witnessed the incident.

They are also asking fleet drivers to note the injuries of anyone involved.

“This can be useful in helping to avoid any fraudulent claims such as staged accidents which are an increasing problem,” explained Martin Smith, technical motor claims manager at Aviva.

“Note the make, model and registration number of all vehicles involved as well as the extent of the damage to the vehicles.”

He also advises making diagrams and taking pictures if possible.
