The two largest auction companies have reported that average values of used vans appear to be plateauing.

According to BCA the average paid at its centres last month for used vans was £3,468 from the £3,595 recorded in May.

At Manheim Auctions the average was £3,109 - down 0.5% (£16) in June compared with May.

This slowing of values has been noted in recent weeks and there has been very little variance in price during the second quarter of the year, said BCA.

"Values remain well ahead of the low point of £2,772 recorded in last December but have not pushed on to match last year’s market peak of £3,868 (recorded in January 2008)," it said in its latest monthly report.

"Year-on-year values are broadly level. Performance against CAP has also levelled off around the mid-90s mark, having climbed rapidly earlier in the year."

At Manheim the 0.5% drop follows five consecutive month-on-month increases in average wholesale used van prices.

Compared with June last year average wholesale used van prices are actually up by 0.5% (£16) with average age the same at 54 months and average mileage 5,297 miles lower at 67,765.

The underlying outlook is also for continued stability during the summer months.
