Renault is setting up a new network of van dealers over the next 18 months as it prepares for the launch of the Master in 2010.

The Professional Plus network will consist of 30 dealerships initially, each investing in staff, facilities and equipment.

Certain derivatives of the new Master range take it above four tonnes and into the truck market.

Consequently, dealers will need to be able to advise on O licensing and their aftersales facilities will require heavy-duty 7.5-tonne ramps.

They will also need experts who can advise on conversions.

The first fully branded Professional Plus outlet will open at Renault’s wholly-owned London West dealership later this year.

“Our fleet customers will see dedicated workshops, receptions and technicians,” said Keith Hawes, director, fleet and light commercial vehicles.

“Sales staff will be skilled people who can talk about conversions, kit and finance.

"They will be focused to fleet needs.”

Professional Plus dealers might also open longer for aftersales work, including nights and weekend shifts, if fleets require an extended service.

It will be needs driven.

Renault will announce a number of other initiatives later this year on the back of the Professional Plus programme as it looks to offer greater peace of mind and a more professional service to fleets.

“Commercial vehicle customers will pay more money if they get a better level of service,” added Hawes.
