A new system has been launched that keeps an eye on van drivers and helps correct them if an accident looks likely.

Eyedrive Systems has been appointed by Mobileye N.V. to distribute the Mobileye Vision products in the UK and Ireland.

The Mobileye C2-170 device which Eyedrive Systems will install aims to bring the same reduction in road traffic accidents as it does elsewhere in the world – reports of 50 to 60% reduction in RTAs for equipped vehicles is not unusual, says Eyedrive.

The system uses the same computer vision technology which Mobileye licences to BMW, Volvo and GM for application in their on-board driver assistance systems.

C2-170 scans the road and vehicles ahead and when it senses a hazard will pre-warn the driver with audible and visual alerts before impact, giving valuable seconds to avoid the potential collision.

It will predict and warn of the dangers of unintended lane departure, forward collision and unsafe distance keeping from vehicles in front.

A spokesman said: “Van fleet managers who wish to monitor and further improve standards of driving can receive real-time reports of the number and type of warnings that their drivers are receiving by transmitting the data by GPRS or WiFi back to base.

"The system can integrate with existing telematics/fleet management systems or use the Eyedrive Systems ‘black box’ to log and transmit the data.”

The system is priced between £750-£1,350 depending on the specification, including full installation.
