As fleets look to cut costs, the Energy Saving Trust (EST) remains upbeat about meeting tough driver training targets set by the Department for Transport (DfT).

It had already trained around 2,500 drivers during a five-month pilot, before the Government pledged £305,000 in May to continue the carbon-cutting programme for another year.

However, EST has now been set the ambitious target of training 26,000 drivers from at least 130 public and private sector fleets – that’s more than 2,100 drivers per month compared to 500 during the pilot scheme.

To date, nearly 3,000 drivers have undergone training, with a further 3,000 booked in for September and October.
