Smartphone application developer Mubaloo has launched an application called ‘Fuel Prices UK’ for iPhone and Android users, which will help drivers find the cheapest fuel in their locality.

The built in GPS function of the smartphone allows the user to see their position on a map and the application plots the position of the five cheapest, closest petrol stations. It will then give the user directions to the fuel station they select.

With fuel stations within a locality selling fuel which can differ by as much as 10p a litre, fleets could save up to £300 per driver, say Mubaloo.

To ensure the application uses the most accurate data, Mubaloo has set up a partnership with Catalist which is part of Experian, the largest provider of data in the UK.

Catalist’s database is updated daily and provides up to date petrol price data, plus diesel and LPG, for more than 10,000 stations across the UK.

The application is available for both the iPhone and the Android and is live and available for download from their application stores for £4.99 for a year.
